This is a great story about a family of boys who hires a housekeeper after their mom dies. All sorts of adventures occur when the housekeeper and her brother become a part of their lives. The story is written in a memoir-type style (even though it's fiction). I love how the lives of the town revolves around the one-room school house. You may have to have your dictionary close for this one because Ivan Doig has one big vocabulary! I won't ruin the ending but there's a twist!
