Talk about a great first sentence:
The man billed as Prospero the Enchanter receives a fair amount of correspondence via the theater office, but this is the first envelope addressed to him that contains a suicide note, and it is also the first to arrived carefully pinned to the coat of a five-year-old girl.
Two magicians are pitted against each other as children and a circus is formed to provide their playing field. The circus travels all over the world and is only open at night. Strange things start happening the longer the circus lasts.
I don't really know how to review this one. I loved the first half, except for the "f" word on page 10. I'm still trying to process the second half though, which included a homosexual reference and a bed scene. The story was very well written--from a literary perspective. It has everything that makes an intriguing story: mystery, love, magic, and murder! It's a definite page-turner. Let me know if you read it--I need to talk to someone about it!
